Embalming & Mortuary Care

Embalming in South East Queensland

Viewing & Burial Preparation

Where is my loved one’s body kept straight after they pass away? Who prepares them for the ceremony? Most aren’t familiar with what happens to a body after passing, and before burial or cremation. On the outside to friends and family, we make the process appear as seamless as possible, which is why most aren’t aware of what actually goes on behind the scenes. But believe us, there’s plenty to it—including embalming and other aspects of mortuary care.

At Killick Family Funerals, we’ll take care of all the little details so you can focus on the grieving process. We look after the deceased throughout South East Queensland—whether in Brisbane, Ipswich or the South Burnett region, including:

The Mortuary Care Process

So, what does go on behind the scenes? Once we’ve transferred the person to our funeral home, where we go from there depends completely on your preference. We’ll hold the person appropriately to minimise the natural changes which can occur, and set upon the sanitising and embalming process. This is a typical provision but if you’d prefer the body not to be embalmed—for religious, cultural or other reasons—the choice is yours.

We provide partial embalming to give enough time for friends and family to say goodbye, or full embalming for those long goodbyes—including in-home viewings. Where embalming is not chosen, there is still a minimum standard of care we provide to all, including washing and preparation. The person is then dressed and make-up is applied ready for viewing and transport to their final resting place.
